The legal Distillery was founded in 1815 by the Macdougalls of Ardbeg on Islay’s South Coast close to a sheltered cove essential for smuggling illicit spirit during the preceeding century. The cove continued to be important for protecting coastal sailing ships servicing the distillery during subsequent years. Ardbeg is the terminus for the island’s bus service through Port Ellen from Bowmore, and is the most easterly of the three distilleries on the south coast road: Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. Uigeadail (“dark and mysterious place”) a blend edition of six and eight year old casks is named after the distillery’s water source. Parent company is Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy.

The 10 year old edition is non chill-filtered to a strength of 46% Vol. presented in 70cl. bottles. Many believe it to be the peatiest, smokiest and most complex Ardbeg whisky, balancing smokiness with sweetness – peat infused with zesty lemon and lime with a dark chocolate coating!
