Bruichladdich

Port Charlotte is a small village beside the Atlantic Ocean on the Inner Hebridean island of Islay, just north of the Bruichladdich Distillery. Although the original Port Charlotte distillery was demolished many years ago, its warehouse is still used for maturation of casks.

Port Charlotte warehousing may also be used, but Bruichladdich whisky editions are primarily matured in cask at the extensive warehousing facilities to the rear of the distillery. Refill Whisky Bourbon Hogshead Cask 1403 was filled at the Bruichladdich Distillery on 25 November 2004 as part of the distillery re-opening celebrations.

Being a “Bruichladdich” this whisky used malted barley at a low peat rating of 5 ppm. of phenols. It is bottled at 17 years, and abv 50% in order to prevent the need to be chill-filtered to remove proteins enhancing the depth and “breadth” of flavours.

Obviously, a much less peaty “dram” but still with a range of botanicals and a hint of that saltiness from being aged in a warehouse close to the Atlantic Ocean.
