Lagavulin 16 year cask matured Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Whilst not a private single cask botling, this Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky has matured in old oak casks for 16 years prior to bottling. There is a long history of spirit distillation in the southern areas of Islay. It is believed that upto 10 illicit stills had existed in the area from 1742. Located on the South Coast of Islay between Laphroaig and Ardmore on the shores of a small sea loch overlooked by the ruin of Dunyvaig Castle, farmer John Johnston founded his legal Lagavulin (“the hollow where the mill is”) Distillery in 1816 with supplies of water from the local streams rising in the peat moors on higher ground to the rear. The small sea loch proved ideal for safe shipping of whisky by sailing ship along the coast and to the mainland.

Lagavulin Whisky is renowned for its rich, peaty, deep smokey flavours with aromas of iodene, seaweed and the local botanical diversity particularly noted when walking along the path to the Distillery adjacent to the coastal road from Port Ellen to Ardbeg. Oakwood Whisky currently has limited stocks available of the 16 year Lagavulin bottled at ALC./VOL.: 43% VOL. in 700ml bottle.
