Port Charlotte
Port Charlotte is a small village beside the Atlantic Ocean on the Inner Hebridean island of Islay, just north of the Bruichladdich Distillery.
Although the original Port Charlotte distillery was demolished many years ago, its warehouses are still used for maturation of casks filled with Port Charlotte whisky using malted barley at a heavily peated level of 30ppm.
Cask 1198 is a Fresh Bourbon Barrel filled on 27 October 2004 as part of the Distillery Re-opening celebration. Bruichladdich Distillery had been closed by Whyte & Mackay in 1994, and being re-opened by a group of whisky entrepreneurs with Duncan McGillivray as Distillery Manager and Jim McEwan as Master Distiller.
After receiving annual samples of the whisky, Terry requested The Distillery for Cask 1198 to be bottled at 14 years and abv 50% – a superb dry peaty “dram” with a range of botanicals and salty aromas.
